Preparing to welcome the sponsored person and his or her family

Once he or she has been accepted, you can help the person you are sponsoring prepare for his or her arrival in Québec. One way you can do this is by sending him or her documentation on Québec.

If the sponsored person has access to the Internet, you can recommend Web sites that you find particularly interesting or helpful. If the sponsored person does not master the French language, you can mention the online French exercices offered free of charge by the Department.

  PRACTICAL ADVICE
If the person you are sponsoring has access to Internet and if he or she can read French, English or Spanish, you can direct him or her to the guide Learning about Québec. A very comprehensive tool, it may prove useful in guiding the sponsored person through the different steps of the integration process, including the job search. To be used while still abroad.

The person coming to join you will undoubtedly be interested in hearing from you in writing. It is important to prepare him or her for the potential difficulties that lie ahead and to assure him or her of your assistance.

Reception at the airport

You should be informed at least two weeks in advance of the arrival of the person you are sponsoring. If possible, make the necessary arrangements to greet the sponsored person at the airport upon arrival. This is a very important moment for newcomers. The offer of support from the moment they arrive on Québec soil can be extremely reassuring to them.
