Applications for the spouse

Work permit

If your spouse plans to work in Québec and you will be holding a specialized position (Skill Level corresponding to 0, A or B under the National Occupational Classification) for six months or more, he or she may submit an application for a work permit directly to the Canadian Visa Office serving your country. A Certificat d’acceptation du Québec (CAQ - Québec Acceptance Certificate) is not required.

If you will be holding a low-skilled position (Skill Level corresponding to C or D under the National Occupational Classification), your spouse must obtain a Certificat d’acceptation du Québec (CAQ - Québec Acceptance Certificate) and a work permit to work in Québec.

  USEFUL INFORMATION
If you are a resident of the United States, Greenland or Saint-Pierre et Miquelon and are submitting an application for a work permit at a Canadian point of entry, your spouse can also submit an application at the point of entry or once settled in Québec.

Part-time courses

If your spouse plans to take part-time courses, he or she must submit an Application for a Québec Acceptance Certificate for Studies to the Service aux étudiants étrangers (foreign students service) as well as an application for a study permit at the Canadian Visa Office.

French courses

Your spouse is also eligible for French courses which, in this context, are reserved specifically for spouses. For information, contact the Immigration-Québec office serving the region where you will be residing.
