Understanding the selection process
Application status
La Direction de la sélection des travailleurs – Amérique
du Nord checks if all the documents are included in your application. If the
file is:
- complete, a receipt is sent to you to confirm your application
- incomplete, the missing documents are requested and the file will is
not processed.
Application processing
Depending on the results of the selection grid, there are three possible scenarios:
- Rejection upon assessment of the file at the preliminary stage
Following a preliminary review, candidates who do not meet the selection criteria
and whose selection interview would not secure a positive outcome are refused.
If this is your case, you will receive a refusal letter.
- Notice to attend an interview
Most candidates must undergo a selection interview with an Immigration-Québec
counsellor. If the review of your immigration application is favourable, you
will receive a notice to attend a selection interview. This notice specifies
the date, location and time of the interview as well as the documents you
must bring with you.
During the interview, the immigration counsellor checks the information
provided in the Application for a Québec Selection Certificate, specifically
with regard to schooling, work experience and language competency.
Once the interview is over, if the decision is positive, the counsellor
informs you of the next steps to follow in your immigration process. If
possible, the counsellor will immediately issue your Certificat de selection
du Québec (CSQ – Québec Selection Certificate). If not,
you will receive it by mail. The counsellor will also give you an information
folder containing documents that you should read carefully. Depending on
your needs, you may be given other specific documents. In case of rejection,
you will be given an explanatory letter.
Approximate duration of the selection interview: 30 minutes
to 1 hour
- Acceptance upon assessment of the file at the preliminary stage
In some cases, immigration applications are processed solely on the basis
of the file (exceptionally, when an interview is not necessary to make a decision).
Carefully prepare your application, you could speed up the process. In fact,
if your file is complete (exact amount, certified supporting documents, true
and legible copies, etc.) and you have attained, at the preliminary stage,
the general passing grade of the selection grid (when the candidate has an
excellent profile), you may be exempt from the interview. In this case, you
will receive a Certificat de selection du Québec (CSQ – Québec
Selection Certificate) in the mail as well as various documents with information
about Québec. You will also be informed of the next steps in your immigration
process.
