Vital facts on the Québec Pension Plan

Information that can make all the difference

Several private and public resources provide information on retirement. So many in fact, that it is sometimes difficult to choose between them.

To make things easier for you, here is some information that we think you should remember about the Québec Pension Plan. This is essential information for good retirement planning.

  • You must contribute for at least one year to the Plan to be entitled to a retirement pension.
  • The amount of a retirement pension depends on:
    • your age when you retire
    • the number of years in which you contributed to the Plan
    • your employment earnings.

  • Each year, there is a maximum amount of employment earnings on which you can contribute to the Plan. In 2006, the maximum pensionable earnings is 42 100 $.
  • The plan provides a basic retirement income. It will replace about 25% of the employment earnings on which you made contributions, if you retire at age 65.
