Death of a child

The death of a loved one is a very difficult time, especially the death of a child.

Following the death of your child, you must inform us as soon as possible because this event has an impact on the child assistance measures. The Régie will stop payment of your child assistance on the first day of the quarter following the death. Quarterly payments are made in January, April, July and October. If child assistance payments are made on a monthly basis, they will be made until the end of the quarter.

You must also notify the Canada Revenue Agency so that the necessary adjustments can be made to your file. To reach that agency, call toll-free 1 800 287-1193.

If a child dies during the month of birth

The Régie does not grant any child assistance for a child who dies during the month of his or her birth.
