The Act to amend the Act respecting the enterprise registrar and other legislative provisions was assented to on Wednesday, December 6, 2006. The principal amendements introduced by this Act will come into force on April 1, 2007, in particular, with regard to the integration of the activities of the Registraire des entreprises (REQ) with those of Revenu Québec, and the preservation of the independence of the REQ's duties and functions. The REQ is considered an essential part of Québec society. Therefore, the mission of the REQ and its staff–protecting the public, associations and businesses in their business dealings–is maintained.
The legislative amendments provide a number of benefits. The primary benefit is the facilitation of the integration of the formalities of the REQ with those of Revenu Québec, thereby improving services to businesses. Also, these amendments reflect the Québec government's policy of reducing State structures. The new law is therefore in keeping with the move to modernize the State.
