The public education system is free for Québec residents from
preschool through CÉGEP.
International students enrolled in public and private schools at
all levels in Québec, on the other hand, are obliged to pay tuition
fees.
Schooling is compulsory for children from the ages of 6 to 16.
The school year starts in late August or early September and
normally ends before June 24.
