Albertine en cinq temps in Chicago French-language production
On January 22, 2007, DePaul University’s Merle Reskin Theatre will offer Chicago theatre-goers the unique opportunity of experiencing one of the celebrated works of one of Québec’s most celebrated dramatists, Michel Tremblay’s Albertine en cinq temps—in its original French version.

Bombardier Transportation President William Spurr to speak in Chicago
Mr. William Spurr, President of Bombardier Transportation/North America, will discuss his company’s vision of the future of high-speed rail in the United States, as well as the effects on public transportation in Chicago of the $500 million contract recently signed for 406 new “el” cars with the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA)—with an option to increase the number of cars to a maximum of 706 (not to exceed $933 millions).

Continental security, an ongoing priority for Québec
Over sixty Québec companies met with key players of the U.S. security and defence industry in December at a seminar in Montréal sponsored by Québec Government Office in New York in collaboration with Fairfax County Economic Development Authority, the State of Virginia and Québec Ministry of Economic Development, Innovation and Export Trade.

Expansion of the ICAO in Montréal
The growing volume of global air traffic has led to the expansion of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), the oldest and largest Montréal-based international organization. Last month, Québec Minister of International Relations, Monique Gagnon-Tremblay, inaugurated the new offices of the Technical Co-operation Bureau of the organization, which is affiliated with the United Nations.

Health sciences: NIH meeting
Partnerships and discussions between Québec and the U.S. are flourishing in the health sciences sector. In association with BioQuébec and with the support of the Canadian Embassy in Washington, the Délégation générale du Québec (Québec Government Office) in New York organized a recent meeting in Montreal aimed at exploring cooperation opportunities with the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH), America’s premier health research organization. Approximately 60 Québec participants met with Steven M. Ferguson, NIH Director of Technology Development and Transfer.

Mexico’s first Québec studies chair
The first Québec studies chair has been created in Mexico, thanks to a partnership between the Université de Sherbrooke and the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León. The academic chair is aimed at heightening awareness of Québec expertise and stimulating tangible collaboration between the two universities in the scientific, cultural, social and economic sectors.

Mission to India generates promising results
India is one of the high-priority emerging economies singled out in Québec’s international policy. Although active relations between Québec and India are recent, they are already very promising. On the heels of an initial visit less than a year ago by Premier Jean Charest, about 60 people from the worlds of business, research and education travelled to India in November as part of a major economic mission.

Talking business in Brazil
Business was high on the agenda last week during a trip to São Paulo by Benoît Pelletier, Québec’s Minister responsible for Canadian Intergovernmental Affairs. Pelletier was asked to launch a seminar on cutting-edge technologies organized by the Federação das Indústrias do Estado de São Paulo (FIESP), Latin America’s leading industry federation. About a dozen Québec businesses took part in the event.
