 Waste ManagementThe City of Pembroke, along with surrounding municipalities, started a new collection program providing regular garbage, container and paper recycling and organic collection services to residential and some commercial establishments. Each residential unit is permitted a maximum of four (4) green garbage or garbage cans with a maximum weight of any item not exceeding 50 lbs. (23 kg). Container Recycling is to be placed loose in the yellow triple "R" containers and paper recycling is to be placed loose in the blue box. No plastic bags can be used for holding recycling or organics. Special Garbage Collection is held twice a year; in the Spring and Fall. Click here to review Collection Calendar for dates and restrictions. Weekly Organics Collection is held during the summer months of June, July and August. The City of Pembroke provides weekly collection for organics in cart only; not extra paper bags or containers during this time period. Christmas Tree Collection is held the second week of January. Click here to review Collection Calendar for dates and restrictions. Placement for Collection Containers is restricted during the winter, especially during snow removal operations. Residents are remined to place garbage, recycling and greet cart collection items five (5) feet back, in the driveway, from the curb or pavement edge. All material being placed in green organic cart should be wrapped in newspaper to reduce the possibility of cart freezing. Balled newspaper should be placed on the grate in the cart and throughout the cart in layers. Paper cart liners or paper yard waste bags will also assist to keep the cart clean and from freezing.
