Information used for technological or statistical purposes

Most of the information received from your computer does not make it possible to verify your identity. Such information is collected because of the technical requirements of Web-based services. Some information, such as a list of the pages visited on our Web site, are used for statistical purposes.


Privacy rules for e-mail

We use the same privacy rules for e-mail and for regular mail. You can count on the discretion of our employees. Any employee who may have access to private information has received training on the confidentiality of personal data and is required to respect your privacy.

We do not reply by e-mail to answer questions requiring the transmission of personal and confidential information. Instead, we will try to reach you by telephone to reply to your message or to follow up on your request.

You should never use e-mail to send us personal information, especially your social insurance number. In this case, you can contact us by using our secure service.


Use of our on-line services

When you use our on-line services, the Régie must be sure of your identity:

  • before accessing your file or processing your application
  • to ensure the confidentiality of your information


To verify your identity, we will either: 

  • temporarily connect you to the Web site of another government department that acts as our partner to confirm your identity using personal information that you can provide

or

  • confirm your identity ourselves by asking you for some personal information (for example, your name, address and telephone number).


You must provide such information to use our on-line services. We will keep the information in accordance with the Act respecting Access to documents held by public bodies and the Protection of personal information . Certain recognized security measures have also been put into place to ensure the secure transmission of your personal information.


Temporarily storage of your personal information

Some of our on-line services let you leave the service before you have completed a transaction and store your information so that you can come back later and continue your application or simulation.

The Régie will store your information in a secure manner for the period indicated. The next time you use the service by indentifying yourself, your information will be automatically shown on your computer. When you store information, your incomplete application or simulation is not processed in any way by the Régie. The stored information:

  • is not placed in your permanent file
  • is not available to our employees
  • will not be given to any other person 


Protection of your personal information

The Régie protects all the personal information that it receives from individuals, government departments and public agencies.

We make sure that it is used only by duly authorized personnel. The Régie may transmit some information to other government agencies or departments under written agreements approved by the Commission d'accès à l'information du Québec.

Information that we have may also be used for purposes of research, evaluation, enquiry or surveys. However, except where provided for by law, information cannot be given to other individuals or bodies or validated by them.


Rights guaranteed by law

The Act respecting Access to documents held by public bodies and the Protection of personal information gives you the right:

  • to the privacy of your personal information
  • to be informed and to consult your personal information
  • to have information corrected, if it is incomplete, inexact, ambiguous or if, releasing it or keeping it on file is not authorized by the Act.
