PREMIER CALLS ON PROVINCE'S YOUTH TO GATHER IN SASKATOON
Premier Lorne Calvert announced today that the Government of Saskatchewan will organize the first Saskatchewan Youth Summit on February 2 and 3, 2007, in Saskatoon, as part of its strategy to attract and retain young people in the province. "We know that many young, outstanding leaders are deciding to stay right here in Saskatchewan to build their careers, start their families and that these young people are the future of this province," Calvert said. "It's these people I'm inviting to the Saskatchewan Youth Summit to talk about their vision of the Saskatchewan of the future." The Youth Summit is a conference and a meeting between young people from the province and representatives from business, education and training, media and government. The event is expected to attract approximately 300 youth aged 19 - 30 from around the province - young workers, students, parents, new immigrants, Aboriginal and First Nations youth and young entrepreneurs. "If we are going to encourage our young people to stay, or to come home, if we're going to encourage our First Nation and Aboriginal young people to make their homes and careers here, then we need to show these people we are a youth friendly province," Calvert said. "What better way to do that than to consult directly with young people on the future of our province?" Saskatchewan Institute of Applied Science and Technology Kelsey Campus Students' Association president Brittany Holderness is excited about the event, "As a young leader, I'm looking forward to this summit and the opportunity to work with others from across the province to build a positive vision for the future of Saskatchewan." The Saskatchewan Youth Summit builds on the commitment made by the Government in the Throne Speech and is part of its continuing effort to make Saskatchewan the best place for young people to live, work and build their future.
