Practical info

With the average life span increasing, for men as well as women, we can today envisage a longer period spent in retirement. However, a retirement of 20 years or more demands more money and, consequently, better planning.

Good financial planning for retirement begins with good information. This issue of Liaison RRQ-Magazine pursues that goal: to inform you about the sources of income that will be available to you at retirement. These sources can be grouped into 2 categories:

  • income from public plans
  • income from your private pension plans and personal savings

We also present the activities that will take place as part of Financial Planning for Retirement Month. They are organized by Question Retraite, a group of 17 partners from the public and private sectors.

We met with Mr. Gilles Sinclair, president of the Institut québécois de planification financière (IQPF). He explains what is involved in a complete financial plan and gives us some sound advice about financial planning.

According to several surveys, young adults save money in preparation for retirement. But do they save enough? See the section The Régie takes a closer look to find out.

We end this issue with answers to the most frequently asked questions about financial planning for retirement. You will also find, in conclusion, an illustration of the Québec system for financial security at retirement.

Once you are well-informed, you will be in a better position to plan!
