If you are a Québec carrier and you use one or more qualified motor vehicles to transport passengers or freight in and outside the province of Québec, you must complete an Application for a Licence and Decals (form CA-500-V) and file it with Revenu Québec. To obtain additional decals, complete form CA-501-V, Request for Decals.
Both the licence and the decals must be renewed annually. Revenu Québec sends you the form to be completed.
The licence costs $50 per year and is valid from January 1 to December 31. Keep the original at your main place of business, and a copy inside each qualified motor vehicle you operate.
Decals cost $10 per pair. Two plainly visible decals, one on either side of the cab, must be affixed to the outside of each qualified motor vehicle.
The licence and decals indicate that you are authorized to operate in all provinces and states that have signed the International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA) without having to meet additional obligations regarding fuel tax. However, carriers of bulk fule may be subject to special rules, both in Québec and in other member jurisdictions.
A driver of a vehicle who does not have the licence and decals may be required to pay duties. A citation may also be issued.
Note |
The Commission des transports du Québec provides one-step access to other government departments and bodies (One-Stop Center for Carriers) to help new carriers deal securely with these organizations and thereby fulfil their regulatory obligations. |
