Your physician's role

When you apply for a disability pension, your attending physician plays an important role. In order to determine whether you are still able to work or whether you can be deemed to be disabled, the Régie des rentes du Québec bases its decision on your physician's report. The medical report must describe your state of health as specifically as possible.

What you need to know

  • You must have your physician fill out the medical report that is included with the application for a disability pension.
  • Your physician may charge you fees for writing the medical report. The Régie does not reimburse any fees charged to the applicant for writing the report.
  • The physician's report must be very specific and supported by as much documentation as possible. Accompanying documents can include examination reports, test results as well as any other document that could help the Régie's medical advisers to evaluate the severity and duration of your disability. Your physician has a reference guide to better understand what information is required.
