The goal of the day was to introduce youth with intellectual disabilities to more sports opportunities, providing the youth with both the physical benefits of improved health and athletic ability as well as the opportunity for the youth to develop social skills, cultivate friendships, strive for and achieve goals and increase their self-esteem.

Research tells us that the five risk factors of physical inactivity, tobacco use, obesity, poor nutrition and alcohol use during pregnancy are the causes of serious and preventable chronic diseases, such as cardiovascular disease, type-2 diabetes, hypertension, Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder and some types of cancer.

British Columbians are among the healthiest people in the world! But there's still room for improvement.ActNow BC is the government-led health promotion initiative that provides the information and support we need to make healthy lifestyle decisions.

By choosing to be more active, eat healthier foods, live tobacco-free and make healthy choices in pregnancy, we can improve our quality of life, avoid chronic disease, and help make British Columbia the healthiest jurisdiction to host a Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games.
