Change of Address Service – Address Information

Canada Post Address Formats:

If you are unsure of the correct format for your new home (street) address, or your separate mailing address, Canada Post provides sample address formats in the
Canada Post Address Guide. The guide contains formats for civic addresses (street address), post office box addresses, rural route addresses, general delivery addresses, and more.

Canada Post Postal Code Lookup:

If you are unsure of the postal code associated with your old or new address you may be able to find it using the Canada Post Postal Code Lookup Service.

Address Verification:

The Multiple Address Change service uses software to verify the address information submitted against Canada Post mailing address information. Following is a list of the possible error messages associated with information entered into the address fields and the actions you should take when, or if, you receive one of these messages:

  • The house number appears to be missing.
    If your address does not include a house number simply click on the Continue without Check button.
  • There appears to be no street number provided.
    If your address does not include a street number simply click on the Continue without Check button.
  • The street name appears to be wrong, incomplete or misspelled.
    If your address includes a numbered street, such as 5th Ave., remove the “th”. If you are certain that you have spelled the street name correctly simply click on the Continue without Check button.
  • The city name appears to be wrong or misspelled.
    If you are certain that you have spelled the city name correctly simply click on the Continue without Check button.
  • The Postal Code has not been entered.
    If your street address does not include a Postal Code please enter N2N 2N2 in the Postal Code field and continue.
  • The Postal Code appears to be wrong.
    Confirm that you have entered the postal code for your mailing address correctly. All British Columbia Postal Codes start with the letter "V".
  • The Postal Code appears to be incorrect for the address you have entered.
    Confirm that you have entered the postal code associated with your address correctly. If you have, simply click on the Continue without Check button.
  • The address does not appear to be valid. Please ensure that the street address, city and Postal Code are correct.
    Confirm that you have entered the street address, city and Postal Code for your address correctly. If you have, simply click on the Continue without Check button.
  • The address matches a number of locations, please be more specific.
    Your postal code matches several possible address locations according to Canada Post, such as General Delivery, Rural Route and PO Box. Simply click on the Continue without Check button.
  • There appears to be an unknown error in the address provided.
    The verification software is unable to confirm one or more components of your address. Confirm that you have entered your address information correctly. If you have, simply click on the Continue without Check button. This error may also be generated if you have entered an apartment number in the first line of the address instead of the apartment number field. Move your apartment number to the correct field and continue.
