Private Managed Forest Land Act
In November, 2003, Bill 88 Private Managed Forest Land Act (PMFLA) was passed. Once in force, this Act will replace the Forest Land Reserve Act. Both Acts are the responsibility of the Ministry of Sustainable Resource Management.
The Private Managed Forest Land Act (PMFLA) creates a council composed of government and private landowner representatives to administer regulations pertaining to forest practices on private managed forest land. The operation of the council will be funded by a levy on Private Managed Forest landowners. The council will have the power to make certain regulations, including regulations regarding forest practices.
The Agricultural Land Commission is leading the development of the regulations that must be in place in order to bring the Private Managed Forest Land Act (PMFLA) into force.
