Venture Capital Programs Our provincial
venture capital programs encourage investments in B.C. businesses by
providing B.C. investors with a 30 percent refundable tax credit. The investment is made through a holding company called a Venture Capital
Corporation (VCC) or a Community Venture Capital Corporation (CVCC). The VCC
or CVCC raises investment capital from B.C. residents and then
invests these funds in qualifying small businesses. Instead of raising investment capital via a VCC or CVCC, a small business has the option of registering as an Eligible
Business Corporation (“EBC”) under one of the programs. This allows the small business to accept investments directly
from investors without having to set up a VCC or CVCC.
The Equity Capital Program stimulates investment in small businesses
throughout B.C. while the Community Venture Capital Program encourages
investments in small businesses outside the Greater Vancouver and Capital
Regional Districts.
Please note that the ministry does not provide investment matching
services as part of program delivery. Participating small businesses
are responsible for attracting investment capital under the
program.
