External/Inbound Trade Missions

The Ministry of Economic Development is spearheading the BC government’s efforts to increase trade and investment opportunities in high-growth sectors by promoting the province’s business advantages internationally and by facilitating capital investment projects, particularly in the regions.

International Marketing Branch

Supports British Columbia’s international sales efforts as well as the federal posts and assists in incoming and outgoing business missions.

A key strategy has been the implementation of an In-Market Representation Program across target markets in Europe, Asia and the United States. Launched at the beginning of 2006 to leverage the 2006 Torino Winter Olympic Games, the In-Market Program currently includes four Pan-European consultants based in Germany, the United Kingdom, and Denmark. They are engaged in extensive investment attraction and trade promotion activities in the areas of Technology, Advanced Manufacturing, Culture and Resources. Eight more representatives are being recruited in the United States, China, Japan and Korea.

The In-Market Representatives increase international awareness of British Columbia's investment opportunities and competitive advantages.  They identify and pursue investment leads; and work with other levels of government and the private sector to encourage and facilitate new investment in the province.
