Beetle Infestation Leads to Higher Annual Cut
VICTORIA – The allowable annual cut for the Okanagan timber supply area in south-central British Columbia will increase 27 per cent, to 3.4 million cubic metres a year, in response to the mountain pine beetle infestation, chief forester Jim Snetsinger said today.

Annual Harvest Increased for Tree Farm Licence 49
VICTORIA – The allowable annual cut for Tree Farm Licence 49 in the Okanagan will increase immediately by 52 per cent to 580,000 cubic metres so that forests affected by the mountain pine beetle infestation can be harvested and reforested, deputy chief forester Henry Benskin said today.

The current mountain pine beetle infestation is believed to be the largest in British Columbia’s recorded history, affecting more than 7 million hectares as of fall 2004 and killing more than 283 million cubic metres of timber.
