High Profile Sites

The Land Remediation Section is involved with thousands of sites throughout British Columbia of varying sizes and complexities. Information regarding, and / or links to a few of the largest or most complex sites are listed below.

Britannia

The Provincial Government acts as both the statutory regulator and the remediator, on behalf of the potential responsible parties, at the Britannia Mine Site. Different provincial ministries are responsible for carrying out these separate functions.

The role of statutory regulator is carried out by the Director, Environmental Management Branch, Ministry of Environment. Information about the regulatory process, including orders issued under the Waste Management Act and correspondence between the Director and various parties associated with the Britannia site can be found on the following web page.

The role of remediator on behalf of potential responsible parties is taken by the Ministry of Agriculture and Land. It maintains a web page dedicated to this site.

Pacific Place

Pacific Place is the old Expo 86 site in downtown Vancouver. Assessment and remediation of this site has been underway for many years.
