British Columbia Ferry Commission

Welcome to the British Columbia Ferry Commission Web site. Established under the province’s Coastal Ferry Act of 2003, the Commission regulates fares and service levels of the ferry operator British Columbia Ferry Services Inc. (BC Ferries) on 25 saltwater routes.

Under the What’s New button on the left (last update: January 20, 2006), you’ll find the latest events, including the Commission’s Final Decision on BC Ferries November 28, 2005 application to permit a higher fuel surcharge on ferry fares.

The Commission is independent of both the government and of BC Ferries. It is obliged to follow six principles in protecting the public interest, which are set out in the Act. For more on these principles and the Commission’s independence, look under the “About the Commission” button on the left.

Please note that the Commission is not an ombudsperson acting on your behalf to resolve any private dispute you may have with the company;  nor is it a general complaints or compliments bureau for BC Ferries. Such feedback can be taken directly to BC Ferries by clicking here. You will find a diagram showing avenues for public input on the ferry system under the button Public Input on the left.

Feel free to browse around this site. If you have comments or questions about the Commission, or simply need more information and want to make contact, click on the contact button on any page within this site.

Thank you for visiting.
