Annual Teachers' Congress

British Columbia’s first Teachers’ Congress was held on November 6, 2006 at the Morris J. Wosk Centre for Dialogue in Vancouver. Public, independent, band school and student teachers from across the province engaged in a day-long dialogue with their colleagues, the Ministers of Education and the Premier. During the congress, participants heard from leading BC educators and discussed issues of key importance to education, including literacy, Aboriginal education and safe/healthy schools.

On this site, you will find information and materials about the proceedings of the 2006 congress, including the agenda, biographies of presenters and synopses of their presentations.

The theme of the inaugural Teachers’ Congress was Reaching Higher for Students – an indication of government’s commitment to seek ideas for positive change in education from educators, parents and students. The ministry looks forward to providing further opportunities for engagement with education partners as we work together to increase student achievement.
