QUEEN’S COUNSEL APPOINTMENTS

 


Thomas Gordon Anderson provides consulting services to family lawyers and also focuses on pension law issues. During his previous work as a commissioner at the B.C. Law Reform Commission, Mr. Anderson did significant work in the area of pension division during marriage breakdown. His law practice is based in Vancouver

 

Thomas E. Baillie is a partner in Baillie Law Corporation in Vancouver. His practice areas include real estate law, commercial law and corporate law. Mr. Baillie has written several publications on the subject of British Columbia real estate, on which he also conducts lectures.

 

Adrian Francis Brooks is the sole proprietor of Adrian Brooks Law Corporation in Victoria, specializing in criminal law at all levels. Mr. Brooks is a volunteer member of the awards and recognition committee of the Canadian Bar Association B.C. Branch.

 

Keith Edgar Burrell, a partner in the Vancouver office of McCarthy Tétrault, is recognized as a leading lawyer in the area of property development. His most recent experience includes acting for the proponent selected for the expansion of the Vancouver Convention and Exhibition Centre.

 

Gordon Bruce Butler is the chair of the Harper Grey LLP’s Air Law Practice Group in Vancouver. He has acted on behalf of aviation insurers, airlines, operators, airports and maintenance and repair facilities. Mr. Butler is also a lecturer with the Continuing Legal Education Society.

 

Nancy Jean Cameron is a family law practitioner whose practice includes collaborative law and mediation. A leader in the collaborative law movement, she is also founder and co-chair of the Vancouver Collaborative Separation and Divorce Group. Ms. Cameron also acts as a child advocate in both the Provincial and Supreme Courts.

 

Sandra Ann Cunningham has been a Crown counsel since 1978 at all levels of court. Currently she is Administrative Crown at Vancouver Youth/Traffic. She juniored John Hall on the Clifford Olson trial, which ended in guilty pleas in January 1981.

 

William Hugh Davies has recently joined Baker Newby in Chilliwack as Associate Counsel after retiring in 1999. He served for many years as a Justice of the Supreme Court of British Columbia. Mr. Davies is active in community affairs and in 1977 was awarded the Silver Jubilee medal for his contribution to his community and to Canada.

 

Dev Dley has been in private practice in Kamloops since 2000. Previously he worked in various capacities including general counsel with the Western Hockey League, and was also vice president for the Canadian Hockey League. He is a director on the B.C. Traffic Safety Foundation and sits on the Thompson Rivers University Foundation.

 

Gregory James Fitch is director of Criminal Appeals and Special Prosecutions for the Criminal Justice Branch of the Ministry of Attorney General in Vancouver. He is a member of the faculty of the Federation of Law Societies, National Criminal Law Program.

 

Glenn Gallins has been a visiting associate professor in the University of Victoria’s Faculty of Law since 1992. He has for many years directed the operation of the Law Centre in Victoria. His professional interests include clinical legal education, public international law, public legal education, and health law.

 

John Merrick Gordon has contributed over 19 years as a Crown counsel for the Ministry of Attorney General and is currently the Acting Deputy Director (Appeals) for the Criminal Appeals and Special Prosecutions Division of the ministry in Vancouver.

 

Susan Alice Griffin is a partner in the Vancouver office of Fraser Milner Casgrain LLP. She is a leading commercial litigation lawyer.

 

Arlene Hermione Henry practices in the areas of corporate/commercial, real estate and wills and estates, with an emphasis on providing legal services to First Nations. She is a Certified Comprehensive Family Mediator and Chartered Mediator. She runs her practice in Vancouver.

 

John Brian Jackson is an experienced criminal law counsel in Vancouver. He is a frequent contributor to programs of the Trial Lawyers Association of British Columbia and the Continuing Legal Education Society.

 

Gordon James Killam practices at Killam Cordell Murray in Vancouver. He works in the area of insurance defence and coverage matters, commercial litigation and arbitration. Mr. Killam has lectured on professional liability and general insurance matters for the Continuing Legal Education Society and volunteers with organizations dedicated to preventing and curing blindness in the developing world.

 

Frank Kraemer is the executive director of the Canadian Bar Association (B.C. Branch). He has dedicated his career to the service of the legal profession as a lawyer, teacher and administrator.

 

Maris Rae McMillan has extensive experience in civil litigation with a focus on medical negligence and complex tort claims including catastrophic personal injury claims and wrongful death claims. She has been recognized as a leading practitioner in the area of personal injury law and medical negligence. She practices law in Vancouver.

 

E. James McNeney was a founding member of the British Columbia Trial Lawyers’ Association and was instrumental in the founding of the Westminster Community Legal Services Society where he formulated bylaws and policies for one of the first community law offices in British Columbia.

 

Lawrence Dale Myer’s focus is on criminal advocacy and human rights. He has been an instructor with the UBC Law Students Legal Advice Program and volunteered for 13 years with the West Point Grey Soccer Association.

 

Christopher J. O’Connor practises in the areas of construction law, fidelity and surety bonds, insurance defence work, commercial fraud, arbitration and mediation and railway law. He is the national leader of the Construction and Engineering Practice Group. He practices in Vancouver.

 

James W.N. Pozer is the executive director of the Community Legal Assistance Society (CLAS) in Vancouver. He oversaw the development of the CLAS as a nationally recognized non-profit law firm specializing in test case and Charter litigation.


 

Peter Ritchie has been in private practice since 1972. He has acted as Crown counsel, defence counsel, and in a broad array of civil litigation at all court levels in Canada. He has served on the executive of both the CBA and B.C. Trial Lawyers Association and is a guest lecturer at U.B.C. and many educative bar functions.

 

Jeffrey A. Rose of Vancouver has practised family law for 21 years. He has been active with the Continuing Legal Education Society, organizing seminars and educating young lawyers in matrimonial law.

 

Bryan Selby Shapiro practises in Vancouver. He focuses on architectural and engineering law. Considered a leader in this field, he has advised and lectured on a wide range of issues and problems associated with construction law.

 

Craig Currie Sturrock has extensive knowledge of provincial and federal tax legislation. In addition to his Vancouver practice, he has served as a governor of the Canadian Tax Foundation and as a director of the B.C. Cancer Agency.

 

Frank Marzio Turco was called to the bar in 1968, and has been in private practice since 1970 focusing on personal injury and general civil litigation. For 21 years, his office remained in Vancouver’s east end, providing general law services to an expanding immigrant population. Mr. Turco is an avid and prolific potter whose work has been showcased at numerous events.

 

Debra M. Van Ginkel has been practicing all aspects of family law since being called to the bar in British Columbia in 1985. She has extensive volunteer experience, both in the legal and non-legal communities. Ms. Ginkel spearheaded the Women Lawyers Forum Mentoring Project and in 2005 she received the Lawyer Helping Lawyer Award. Ms. Ginkel practices in Vancouver.

 

Gregory A. Weber has practiced as Crown Counsel throughout the Lower Mainland of B.C. since 1975. He is a well-recognized mentor to others and has taught in the area of jury addresses at the UBC law school.

 

Catherine L. Woods works in the area of medical malpractice claims with a particular emphasis on obstetrical cases and brain damage claims. She also lectures in the Faculty of Medicine, at UBC, instructing medical students on issues such as end-of-life decision-making and patient consent.

 

Barbara Young is a founding member of the Okanagan Collaborative Family Law Group and an experienced family trial lawyer. She has been a leader in the promotion of the collaborative law process in the Okanagan.
