The
ministry assesses, collects, verifies and reports Crown
royalties and freehold production taxes payable by the petroleum
industry. To assist the industry, the ministry provides
advice and interpretation of pertinent statutes, regulations
and orders. It also distributes the prescribed reporting
forms with instructions on how to complete them.
The
ministry provides current and historical information on
these revenues and responds to general enquiries related
to them.
British
Columbia's royalty on oil and gas produced from Crown land
and production tax on oil and gas produced from freehold
land are provided for in the same legislation. The only
differences are in the royalty or tax rates.
Two
sources of information are available to assist producers
in interpreting the requirements of these acts and regulations
and in meeting their reporting and payment obligations:
the Oil and Gas Royalty Handbook and the Information Letters
issued by the Mineral, Oil and Gas Revenue Branch.
Reference
codes for clients (royalty payers), facilities, pools, fields
and production entities are required for reporting oil and
gas production and royalties or taxes. Up-to-date listings
of these codes are available on this website.
A Directory
of Contacts for the Mineral, Oil and Gas Revenue Branch
is provided in the Branch Contacts section of this website.
