Public Education and Outreach
Legislative Assembly Mission:
Legislative Assembly staff provide continuity and enduring non-partisan services, in a secure and orderly environment, to the democratic institution of Parliament and its members through: procedural advise, administrative support and information services.
Public Education & Outreach Vision:
B.C. citizens appreciate and are engaged in the parliamentary process through the education of the public about the institution of Parliament and the significance of B.C.'s Parliament Buildings.
Goals:
Goal 1: To building understanding and appreciation of the institution of Parliament amongst B.C. citizens through educational programs and outreach initiatives.
Goal 2: To make the B.C. institution of Parliament more approachable and accessible for the public by facilitating access to the legislative precinct and interaction with MLAs.
Goal 3: To increase visitor awareness of the history of the Parliament Buildings and the parliamentary process through informational programs, materials and outreach initiatives.
Services
- Tours - educational tours (from kindergarten
to college level) or general public tours of the Parliament Buildings
available through the Legislative Tour Office.
- Publications and Gifts - from brochures, posters, and books and an array of Legislative Assembly gifts.
- Discover Your Legislature - learn about
the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia through interactive
presentations and games.
- B.C. Legislative Internship Program -
a six month program open to all Canadian university and B.C.
university-college graduates to learn about the inner workings
of our parliamentary system.
- Parliamentary Procedure Workshop - one-day
workshops are offered to members of the public service to learn
about the legislative and budgetary processes in the Legislative
Assembly of B.C. and Cabinet decision-making.
- Information for Teachers - learn about the various programs and educational resources available through the Public Education & Outreach Office.
