This website provides an overview of all programs and
services in British Columbia of interest to communities
creating regional immigration strategies.
Each year, British Columbia receives approximately
40,000 new immigrants, the second highest per capita
ratio in Canada, second only to Ontario. Each of these
new arrivals brings with them a host of expertise, innovation
and language skills, and helps showcase the vibrant
multicultural tapestry of our province. The Province
of British Columbia and Citizenship
and Immigration Canada (CIC) have jointly developed
this resource for communities, municipal leaders and
governments interested in developing mechanisms to more
evenly distribute the many benefits immigration can
bring to all B.C. communities.
This joint interest is formally reflected in the Agreement
for Canada-British Columbia Co-operation on Immigration and
has been the spirit behind strong partnerships and an
open dialogue on these issues between the Province and
CIC.
The information on this site is organized as follows:
- Government
of Canada Programs: The Government of Canada establishes
national policies and standards for immigration and
is responsible for admission and control of all immigrants
to Canada. Various federal departments provide funding
and information programs related to immigration.
- Government
of British Columbia Programs: The Government of
British Columbia works in cooperation with municipalities
and community organizations on a variety of programs
to provide essential services for immigrants, and
to promote immigration in key sectors.
- Services
by Region: A clickable map of community and non-profit
agencies that provide regional immigration services
or resources. This listing also includes community
colleges and universities with international education
programs.
- Services
by Provider: Includes links to key agencies providing
services and resources for immigrants and those
interested in immigration issues in B.C.
- Index
of All Services: A listing of all organizations
on this site categorized by the service they provide
(e.g. Health, Language Services).
Although intended to be comprehensive, this guide to
immigration programs and services is not exhaustive.
