Multicultural Profiles

Multicultural Profiles are 'snapshots' of the immigrant population and ethno-cultural composition of British Columbia.

These profiles are based on Census data (a survey of all members of the population conducted every five years). Census data is considered to be the most accurate, detailed and representative data on British Columbia's population.

Please note:
The Profiles use terms developed by Statistics Canada for the federal Census.

Municipalities and regions which have less than 100 individuals composing the immigrant or visible minority population are not listed. To ensure privacy and confidentiality, data is randomly rounded to a value of 0 or 5, or 0 or 10 if there were less than 10 persons.

The selected communities are Vancouver, Burnaby, Surrey, New Westminster, Richmond, Tri-cities, Capital Regional District, Nanaimo, Prince George, Kelowna, Abbotsford, Chilliwack, and Kamloops. Five key demographic characteristics have been selected for this purpose: number of immigrants, recently arrived immigrants (those who arrived since the 1996 census), age, mother tongue, and visible minority status.
