The following document lists all statutes enacted, amended or repealed during the 2005 Session of the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia up to the currency date above. The document will be updated periodically as new provisions are brought into force and as new Bills are given assent.

The following document lists all statutes affected so far by the 2005 Session of the Legislative Assembly. In this document:

• Titles:
  If the title of the Bill appears in full, ie: “FORESTS STATUTES AMENDMENT ACT, 2004”, then the information that follows refers to the entire Bill;

  If the title does not include the word “Act”, ie: “FOREST”, it indicates that the ensuing information refers only to the portion of a Bill affecting the referenced Act, and that the title of the Bill in which that amendment appears may be quite different (as in a consequential amendment).

• SBC = Statutes of British Columbia; RS = Revised Statutes of British Columbia, 1996.
• Type:
  • amendment means an amendment to one or more pieces of existing legislation.
  • consequential amendment means that a particular Act was amended as a result of changes to - or the enactment of - another Act.
  • new Act means the Act is a complete new Act on a particular subject, or a repeal and replacement of earlier legislation, rather than an amendment to existing legislation. A new Act may also contain amendments to existing statutes that are consequentially affected by it.
  • Acts such as the Budget Measures Implementation Act, 2004 only affect other statutes. In these cases the "Type" is listed as "amends other Acts". For each statute affected by such an amendment Act there is included a reference to the title of the relevant amendment Act.
• Relevant Sections refers to the sections of a new Act or amending Act that affect a particular piece of legislation, NOT the existing sections of the particular legislation which are affected by the subject Act.
• How effective:
  
  • The Commencement section (usually the last section of a Bill) states whether the Bill is effective on a particular date or whether it comes into force by regulation of the Lieutenant Governor in Council. If a Bill does not have a Commencement section, it comes into force on the date of Royal Assent (R/A). IF a provision requires a regulation (Reg) and IF a regulation has been made the information is found under the "In force dates" heading.
• In force dates:
  
  • In cases where the Bill was effective on Royal Assent or on a set date, that date is listed here. In cases where provisions are to be brought into force by regulation, if a regulation has been passed its number appears in square brackets followed by the relevant date. The Interpretation Act states that the title of an Act and its commencement provision (if any - usually the last section of an Act) come into force on Royal Assent.
• Repeals:
  
  • Acts which are repealed are shown with the Act title, followed by the word REPEAL and the citation [year and chapter] for the repealed Act.
