Cabinet Operations and the Public Service

Once legislation and the budget are approved in the Legislature, they provide the basis for action by public servants. While cabinet ministers provide direction to public servants, tradition requires that a distinct separation be maintained between the policy-making function of cabinet and the advisory and administrative function of public servants.

The Office of the Lieutenant-Governor and the Legislature

The Queen's representative in the Canadian provincial government system ensures that the people will find expression in the government of the day. The elected members of the legislature (Members of the Legislative Assembly) determine the laws that govern the people of B.C. and what programs are offered.
