The Office of
the Superintendent of Motor Vehicles regulates drivers to help ensure
the safe and responsible operation of motor vehicles in British
Columbia.
The Superintendent:
- establishes
and maintains standards for driving behaviour and medical fitness,
and may restrict or prohibit drivers, or cancel driving privileges
if standards are not met;
- provides
an independent avenue of appeal of certain ICBC licensing decisions
affecting drivers, driver training schools, AirCareŽ Certified
repair facilities and the people who work in these areas;
- schedules
and hears evidence at show cause hearings related to actions proposed
by ICBC with regard to a licence, designation or authorization
of driver training schools, AirCareŽ Certified repair facilities,
and the people who work in these areas; and
- conducts
reviews of administrative driving prohibitions and vehicle impoundments
imposed by police.
