BC Athlete Assistance Program

The B.C. Athlete Assistance Program provides $700,000 in financial support to about 850 B.C. athletes (grants ranging from $500 to $3500) striving to represent B.C. and Canada in athletic competition at Canada Games, Olympics/Paralympics, Pan Am and Commonwealth Games.

Provincial Sport Organization (PSO) Awards

Grant recipients are selected by their respective provincial sport organizations. To apply, please contact your provincial sport organization. Application guidelines and forms are below. Provincial sport organizations in the athlete assistance program are listed in the program policies, procedures and guidelines file below.

Post Secondary Institution (PSI) Awards

Awards are granted to recipients from a select group of team sports. Contact your post-secondary institution’s Athletic Director for more information.

BC Athlete Assistance Program PSO and PSI Information

The following forms are available to provincial sport organizations and post-secondary institutions only. The forms are available as print and fill and may be submitted by fax or mail. An Excel format is also available and can be returned by email.

Premier’s Athletic Awards

Vancouver's John Romanko (sailing) receives the Premier's Athletic Award certificate from Premier Gordon Campbell at the 2005 Premier's Athletic Awards, March 20, 2006. Eighty-two athletes in 43 sports were recognized.

Each year, the top male and female athlete in each of the 45 sports in the B.C. Athlete Assistance Program are honoured by the Premier and Minister responsible for Sport at the Premier's Athletic Awards. These awards honour athletes who, through their commitment to excellence, hard work and determination, leave their mark on sport in B.C. Past recipients include Olympian runner Dianne Cummins and wrestler Daniel Igali and Paralympian wheelchair basketball player Marni Abbott and Boccia athlete Paul Gauthier.

The Premiers Athletic Award Recipients’ photos and accomplishments are displayed at the BC Sport Hall of Fame and Museum at BC Place Stadium in Vancouver.

Award recipients are nominated by their provincial sport organization. For further information, please contact your PSO.

Provincial sport organizations can nominate the top male and female BC Athlete Assistance Program athlete in their sport for the time period Nov. 1, 2005 to Oct. 31, 2006. The nomination deadline is January 23, 2007 The application and eligibility criteria are below. The Awards ceremony will be held in Vancouver in March/April 2007 (tba).
