MAILLARDVILLE – John van Dongen, Minister of State for Intergovernmental Relations, and Harry Bloy, MLA for Burquitlam, congratulated the city of Coquitlam and Mayor Maxine Wilson for their continued support of British Columbia’s dynamic French community.
The 17th Annual Festival du Bois, the largest francophone event in the province, is the finale event of Flaunt your Frenchness Week in the city of Coquitlam.
“I want to congratulate everyone involved in making the Festival du Bois event a success,” said Bloy. “Year after year, this event brings thousands of people to our community to celebrate our rich francophone culture and heritage.”
British Columbia is home to a vibrant and dynamic French-speaking community and today hundreds of thousands of British Columbians have embraced the French language.
“Our government is proud to celebrate the contribution the French community makes to our province,” said van Dongen. “We will continue to work to ensure the B.C. francophone community can continue to prosper in our province.”
The Festival du Bois, a popular francophone folk music event, offers a program that spans
cultures, languages and generations.
“The
festival is a celebration of French-Canadian music and culture with a
multi-cultural twist, and we are pleased to share our francophone culture and
heritage with all British Columbians,” said Johanne Dumas, executive director
of Société Maillardville-Uni, the organizer of the festival.
This year, the British Columbia government is again proclaiming March 20 as BC Francophone Day or Journée de la Francophonie provinciale.
There are approximately 275,000 French speakers in British Columbia, approximately 63,000 for whom French is their first language.

d’État des Relations intergouvernementales, et Harry Bloy, membre de
l’Assemblée législative pour la circonscription de Burquitlam, ont offert leurs
félicitations à la ville de Coquitlam et à sa mairesse, Maxine Wilson, en
raison de leur appui soutenu favorisant l’épanouissement de la communauté
franco-colombienne.
La 17e édition annuelle
du Festival du Bois constitue l’événement culminant de la semaine
« Fièrement francophone » qui se déroule dans la ville de
Coquitlam.
« Je tiens à féliciter tous
ceux qui ont contribué au succès du Festival du Bois », a déclaré
M. Bloy. « D’année en année, attirés par cet événement, des milliers
de gens se joignent à notre communauté pour célébrer la richesse de la culture
et du patrimoine francophones. »
La Colombie-Britannique accueille
une communauté francophone vivante et dynamique et, aujourd’hui, des centaines
de milliers de Britanno-Colombiens cherchent à apprendre la langue française.
« Notre gouvernement est fier
de célébrer la contribution de la communauté francophone au développement
provincial », a déclaré M. van Dongen.
Le Festival du Bois, un festival de
musique traditionnelle francophone, présente un programme offrant un large
éventail de cultures, de langues et de générations. « Le Festival est une
célébration de la musique et de la culture du Canada français et de partout
dans le monde où la touche française se fait sentir, et c’est avec plaisir que
nous partageons notre culture et notre patrimoine francophones avec tous les
Britanno-Colombiens », a dit Johanne Dumas, directrice générale et
artistique de la Société Maillardville-Uni, qui est responsable de
l’organisation du Festival.
Cette année encore, le gouvernement
de la Colombie-Britannique proclamera le 20 mars comme Journée de la
Francophonie provinciale.
En Colombie-Britannique, environ
275 000 habitants parlent français; parmi ce nombre, environ 63 000
personnes possèdent le français comme langue maternelle.
