Message from the District Manager on the passing of Glen Evely ...

It is with the deepest regret that I advise that Glen Evely, Compliance & Enforcement Technician of the Okanagan Shuswap Forest District, was tragically killed in a car accident in Vernon early Saturday morning. Glen was serving as a volunteer RCMP officer when the cruiser he was traveling in was hit by a stolen truck. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Glen was a wonderful family man, coworker, and friend to many. He was truly a valued member of the Forest Service for over 12 years, both in Vernon and, previous to that, in the Chilcotin. He died serving the people of the province, something he has done so well, in so many ways, for so many years. His positive attitude, willingness to help out wherever he could, professionalism, competency, and friendship will be sadly missed by all.

Glen is survived by his wife, Annie, and their two daughters, aged 7 and 4. The family has expressed deep gratitude for the overwhelming support it has received, and they request that their privacy be respected as they deal with this tragic loss.

The outpouring of support from around the province has been touching. Thank you all. We will share all of them with the family.

Many people have asked if donations can be made. In lieu of gifts or flowers, a trust fund has been established at the Interior Savings Credit Union (locations here) -- it is the Glen Evely Memorial fund and will be used by the family especially to benefit Glen and Annie's daughters, Corine and Lydia; contributions can be made at any Credit Union. Alternatively, donations can be made to the Children's Wish Foundation in Glen's honour.

Also, please be advised that the funeral will be held on Saturday, November 20th at 1:00pm, at the Alliance Church, which is at 2601-43rd Avenue in Vernon. Please note that it is a full RCMP funeral; parking is expected to be limited. (map here)
