North Island - Central Coast District Recreation Program

If your interest include catching 15 kilogram salmon, or sailing in the Johnstone Strait archipelago, picnicking on the untouched beaches of the west coast of Vancouver Island, world class scuba diving, or taking a trip on the North West Passage, the North Island - Central Coast is the place for you.  The North Island - Central Coast Forest District Recreation Program manages 14 district recreation sites including 4 marine anchorages, 32 recreation sites managed cooperatively with major licencees, 56 kilometres of hiking trails, and 3 kilometres of interpretive trails.  About 40,000 visitors per year use the Forest Service and licencee supported recreation facilities.

Unique to the North Island are hundreds of caves and karst (limestone) related features. These and all recreation features are managed to ensure that visitors and local people will be enjoying northern Vancouver Island and the central coast for all of it's natural wonder.
