Christmas Trees

The staff and management at South Island Forest District wish you and your family a safe and joyous holiday season and a healthy and prosperous New Year.

When available, in the South Island Forest District (SIFD) British Columbia residents can harvest a Christmas Tree from Crown land portions of BC Hydro right-of-ways with the permission of a Forest Officer.

Each year, staff from the Forest Service work with BC Hydro to locate specific portions of (Crown Land) rights-of-way that have suitable trees growing.  Once a suitable area has been located, maps are made available – permission to cut a tree is granted through  Free Use Permit.  You are allowed one tree per family; cutting a Christmas Tree as authorized in a Free Use Permit is strictly for personal use, you are not allowed to sell them.

This year we have an area for Public Christmas Tree cutting in SIFD. The contact person for permit and map is Lynn Krupek at 731-3006

There are numerous individuals in the South Island Forest District that manage areas of Crown Land under BC Hydro Transmission lines for Christmas Trees. These individuals plant, prune and harvest their trees each year as per their respective Christmas Tree Permit.
Most of these individuals concentrate on wholesale markets, although several offer annual U-CUTS.

If you are interested in growing Christmas Trees, or want information about choosing, caring for or recycling your Christmas trees please contact the South-West B.C. Christmas Tree Association.
