2003 Wildfires

In the summer of 2003, there were 181 wildfires. 27 of these were large, and burned a total of nearly 26,000 hectares of forest. The Kutetl fire alone, seen here south of the West Arm of Kootenay Lake, was nearly 8,000 hectares in size and posed a threat to the communities of Harrop, Procter and Nelson.
