Welcome to the Website of the Lieutenant Governor and Government House, British Columbia

The Honourable Iona Campagnolo, PC, CM, OBCThis Office is designated under Canada’s Constitution to represent the ‘State’ of our province, with reserve powers dedicated to the unlikely necessity of providing for continuance of democratically elected government. As well as a host of other functions, the Office is a non-partisan, non-political centre of honours dedicated to those citizens whose service to British Columbia and Canada is recognized as being significant.

This website is a service to citizens who would like to know more about the legacy, functions and current activities of the Office of Lieutenant Governor. It provides an opportunity to learn about the history, traditions and personnel associated through the years since British Columbia joined the Canadian Confederation in 1871. The website can supply you with an up-to-date record of current protocol visits, special events, travels in the province and speeches delivered by the Lieutenant Governor. You will also find our Youth Zone for younger ‘web-surfers’ and a record of upcoming events. The photo gallery is updated regularly, portraying actions associated with the many and varied tasks of this Office.

Visitor Information supplies you with information regarding directions, public access and programming for this Ceremonial Home of all British Columbians. Under the Gardens section, a complete site map of our fine public gardens is available. This area of the website also has a special section dedicated to the more than 250 dedicated Friends of Government House Gardens Society volunteers. The combined hard work of professional staff and passionate volunteers allows visitors to freely enjoy these remarkable gardens, with few exceptions, every day from dawn to dusk.

Watch our website for special Open House occasions when you are invited to visit the interior of Government House, located where two previous buildings have stood and where the official centre of hospitality in our province has been located since 1865.

As you navigate this website, you are invited to contact us with any questions or ideas you may wish to communicate to me or the staff.
