Sustainable Forest Management Audits Last modified: December 18, 2006
One of the key provisions in the new Forest Resources Management Act and regulations, proclaimed in 1999, requires large forest companies to have periodic independent audits to assess how well they're achieving the objectives set out in their Forest Management Plans (FMP) These audits are intended to bring greater transparency and accountability to the management of our forests, for both government and industry, and to provide opportunities to continuously improve our forest management practices.  The Independent Sustainable Forest Management Audit Manual (pdf) sets out the protocols for such audits.  As they become available, audit results for each company will be made public.
