Interested in employment in the firefighting field?
In Saskatchewan, full time (Classified) positions are advertised in our two
major daily newspapers (Saskatoon Star Phoenix and the Regina Leader Post),
and each competition is separate. These positions are also posted on the
internet, Website:
http://www.careers.gov.sk.ca/ or
http://www.se.gov.sk.ca/employment/ If you are interested in this type
of employment in Saskatchewan, you can visit this website or subscribe to
one the above mentioned publications and monitor them for job postings.
We also have seasonal jobs called Labour Service
positions. However these are only posted at Sask Environment offices,
starting late March. Your best bet would be to check at one of the three
main fire centres; La Ronge (northern area) 306-425-4447, Buffalo Narrows
(west side) 306-235-1800, Prince Albert (central/east) 306-953-3423.
Saskatchewan places an extremely high priority on
training and physical fitness. Without training, even short-term employment
as an emergency firefighter is unlikely.
Northlands
College offers firefighting training in three northern communities:
Creighton, La Ronge or Buffalo Narrows, they can be reached at the following
toll free number 1-888-331-1185.
Best of luck, in your efforts to find regular
employment in the field of fire management.
