Consumers who purchase ready-to-serve beverages in Saskatchewan
must pay two fees to the Government. One is an environmental handling
charge which goes to offset the environmental cost of beverage
containers. The other is a refundable deposit designed to encourage
consumers to return their beverage containers for recycling.
Manufacturers
and distributors selling ready-to-serve beverages in approved
containers are required to be licenced by Saskatchewan Environment
and Resource Management.
