Signature authentication on notarized documents
(306-787-3899)

How do I get a certificate authenticated by the Lieutenant-Governor?

Send notarized documents needing signature authentication to:

Deputy Provincial Secretary
8th Floor, 1874 Scarth Street
Regina, SK S4P 3V7
Phone: (306) 787-3899

The Deputy Provincial Secretary will verify that the Notary’s signature is valid. The document will then be sent to the Lieutenant Governor, whose signature will authenticate the Deputy Provincial Secretary’s. The document is then stamped with the Great Seal of Saskatchewan and is considered authenticated.

What kind of documents need authentication?

A variety of documents (e.g. powers of attorney, death/birth certificates) requested by consulates, embassies and foreign governments may require authentication.

Can you give me advice on what I need to do?

We authenticate signatures on notarized documents. We cannot provide legal advice. You must find out exactly what you need from your notary, lawyer or the consulate or embassy you are dealing with.

How long does it take?

Allow three business days for the process.

How much does it cost?

The fee for authentication is $10 for the first document and $5 for every other document (e.g. $15 for two documents, $20 for three documents and so on). Cheques or money orders are payable to the Minister of Finance.

How are the documents returned to me?

You can arrange to pick up the documents in person or have them mailed to you. If you can’t pick them up and you need them immediately, please include a pre-paid self-addressed method of returning them to you.
