All Saskatchewan groups and organizations licensed by the Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority (SLGA) to conduct charitable gaming (bingos, raffles, Texas Hold ‘em poker tournaments, Monte Carlo events and breakopen ticket sales) are eligible to receive a grant equal to 25 per cent of the net revenues raised from these activities. The grant applies to all licensed charitable gaming that takes place on or after April 1st, 2006.
Grants will be paid quarterly, with the first cheques being issued once the required legislative amendments are passed. The amendments were introduced and began moving through the required process during the recent fall sitting of the Legislative Assembly. However, the amendments were not passed before the legislature adjourned in December.
The process to pass these legislative amendments is expected to resume during the spring sitting of the Legislative Assembly. Once passed, grant payments will be made in spring 2007. It’s important to note that grants will still be paid retroactive to April 1, 2006. For more information about the grant program, click here or contact SLGA at: 1-800-667-7565.
