Because of chickpea's indeterminate growth habit, the kabuli variety is best
adapted to the Brown soil zone, and desi variety is best adapted to the Brown
and Dark Brown soil zones of Saskatchewan.
In 2005, the estimated total chickpea production in Saskatchewan is 84,400 tonnes,
which is up 98 per cent from the 2004 chickpea production.
