Saskatchewan Housing Corporation

Saskatchewan Housing Corporation (SHC) is an agency of the Department of Community Resources. While recognizing that the market place is the primary vehicle for the provision of housing, SHC provides access to affordable, suitable and adequate housing for people who have an identified need and who could not afford it without assistance.

Housing programs and services make it possible for seniors to receive supportive services and to participate in social and recreational opportunities. Families have an opportunity to purchase homes through innovative homeownership assistance programs. Persons with disabilities might access the support they require to live as independently as possible. Affordable housing can help make it possible for parents to pursue training and employment opportunities that can assist in building a better life for themselves and their children.

The Housing Network

The day-to-day management of 30,400 housing units and the co-ordination of services to tenants is provided through a network of local housing authorities, non-profit organizations, housing co-operatives, private landlords and SHC.

SHC Territory Operations Offices provide technical assistance, manager and board member training, tenant services co-ordination and accounting and financial services for housing authorities in southern and central Saskatchewan. In the North, local and regional housing authorities and non-profit groups manage the majority of the housing units provided through SHC's programs.

  • The Saskatchewan Housing Corporation is now processing applications under its Saskatchewan Home Energy Improvement Program (SHEIP) to assist low and moderate-income homeowners and rental property owners housing low-income tenants with home improvements related to energy efficiency.

Part of Saskatchewan Energy Share, the program offers grants of up to $4,000 ($4,700 in the North) based on income level, family composition and type of dwelling. For further information call 1-866-388-8433.
