The Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR) Professional Development Fund

To support the development of a coordinated system for the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) in the province, a Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR) Professional Development Fund was made available in 2003. This fund provides financial assistance for post-secondary institutions to build capacity for PLAR.   10 learning institutions are coordinating 12 professional development activities for faculty, staff, and community; these activities will be undertaken in the fall/winter of 2003.
Funding is provided for the coordination of professional development activities that enhance staff and/or faculty expertise in PLAR advising and/or assessing leading to the delivery of PLAR services for learners.

This program is intended to assist and enhance:

  • The knowledge, skills, and resources (capacity) within educational institutions to deliver PLAR services to learners across a range of programs;
  • The expertise available within institutions to develop effective PLAR policies, procedures, mechanisms and tools/materials on an institution-wide basis.

By supporting PLAR professional development activities within institutions, a culture of continuous learning will be fostered in the province.
