CROP DEVELOPMENT BRANCH

Mandate:

To provide strategic development and production services for a thriving crop sector.

Programs:

Specialist services are provided in the areas of:

  • Field Crops - for the provincial dry land cereal, oilseed, special crops (pulse, herb and spice), organic, forage and rangeland sectors.
  • Horticulture - for the vegetable, potato, fruit, greenhouse, nursery trade and dried flower sectors.
  • Apiculture - for the honey bee and leafcutter bee sectors.
  • Northern Agricultural Products Unit - for the wild rice and special forest products sectors.
  • Pest Management - weed, insects, and plant diseases.
  • Soil Management - fertility, soil conservation and problem soils.
  • Pest Diagnostics - plant disease, insect identification, plant identification, herbicide resistance screening - Crop Protection Laboratory.
  • Crop Production Economics and Farm Business Management.
  • Crops-based Business Development including biomaterials and biofuels.
  • Applied Research - for the provincial Agri-ARM (Applied Research Management) Program.
