Repayment Assistance

It is important that you keep up to date on your student loan payments. If you do not make your payments, you will be considered in default. Your debt will be turned over to a collection agency and your default will be reported to a credit bureau thereby affecting your credit rating. You will also be restricted from receiving further financial assistance until the default has been cleared.

If you have trouble getting a job and repaying your loans right away, use the Quick Tips to find out about short-term and long-term repayment assistance such as:

  • Integrated Interest Relief
  • Revision of Terms
  • Extended Interest Relief
  • Debt Reduction in Repayment
  • Permanent Disability Benefit

For more information on these assistance programs, visit CanLearn's Debt Management Tools. It is important to ask for help as soon as you feel that your are having difficulty meeting your repayment obligations.

If you default on your loan, ask for help. Contact the National Student Loans Service Centre to discuss your options.
