Pesticide Applicator Licences

Updated:   February 2005

Purpose:

To ensure commercial pesticide application is conducted in a safe and responsible manner by knowledgeable applicators.

Background:

The Pest Control Products (Sask.) Act and regulations require that any individual who uses or applies a pesticide must hold a valid pesticide applicator licence. An applicant for a pesticide applicator licence must pass a pesticide applicator course. Pesticide applicator courses are offered by the Business and Agriculture Division of the Saskatchewan Institute of Applied Science and Technology. For course details, phone (306) 798-4714 or Toll Free 1-866-467-4278.

Impact:

There are currently 13 licence classes that reflect the types of pesticide application being conducted. With the exception of the Forestry class, all courses are available either as classroom or home-study option. Applicators are required to be recertified every five years. Exemptions to this requirement include individuals who apply pesticides to land they own or rent.
