Summer Break Funding

Students may complete the Summer Break Funding Request Form to request funding during thier summer break.

Procedure for Funding Clients for Summer Break

  • One PTA funding period cannot exceed 52 weeks.
  • Students who complete their programs in June AND who will be returning before September will be eligible to have their summer break funded with PTA.
  • Requests for summer break funding will not be processed until clients have verified to date all previously reported income.
  • For programs beginning in August, 2005, clients must be verified up to March, 2006.
  • For programs beginning in September, 2005, clients must be verified up to April, 2006.
  • Summer Break Funding Request Form should be used to cover the break between the current period of studies ending in June and the next period of studies, beginning in late August or early September. Students must make a commitment to return to be eligible for the funding
  • Note: Students who do not make the commitment to return in August/September and who are not given the extension to their PTA may change their mind. These students should not be put back on the PTA until the new school year begins in the fall. If there are cases which require review in relation to this guideline - Student Financial Assistance - PTA should be contacted.
  • Students will be required to report all income earned (including spousal income where applicable) during the break period. They will not be provided with the daycare allowance unless they provide proof of employment (i.e. declare income and provide paystubs upon verification) or if they are involved in unpaid activities which necessitate daycare. If there is a need for daycare because of unpaid activities, the training center must provide Student Financial Assistance - PTA Unit with information about the activity and how it is linked to the clients Career/Education Plan. If clients are required to hold their daycare spot over the break period, they must provide documentation verifying this.
  • The training center must keep in touch with clients during the break to ensure changes in income and daycare expenses, or other changes in circumstance, are reported in a timely manner to avoid large overpayments. The Change of Information Request form will be used and forwarded by the training center to Student Financial Assistance - PTA Unit for changes in circumstances during the break.
  • The 4 month verification requirement to submit pay stubs is required during the break the same as during the school year.
  • New Application Form should be completed for the NEW academic period which will begin in late August/early September. These applications can be completed and submitted to Student Financial Assistance - PTA Unit as soon as the client is able to provide accurate information about the fall. Student Financial Assistance - PTA Unit will process the applications as they are received to help to ensure clients do not have a break in funding when they return in the fall.
  • The training center must advise Student Financial Assistance – PTA Unit if the client indicates they have changed their mind about returning to school. The training center should contact the client in early August to determine if the client will return to school. If the client is not returning the training center must advise Student Financial Assistance – PTA Unit so that payments can be canceled . To cancel the payments, Student Financial Assistance – PTA Unit requires at least 5 working days notice.
  • If the client does not return to school and the payment has not been canceled, the payment will be considered an overpayment (ie if they are suppose to return in September and do not return the September payment will be considered an overpayment but the break period funding will not be an overpayment).
Training Centres should contact PTA Unit at 1-800-597-8278 for further information.
